Why Clients Ghost Your Quotes (And How to Fix It)
Silence is the worst answer. Here are the top reasons clients stop responding and how to re-engage them.
You met the client. The walkthrough went great. You sent the quote. And then... silence.
Ghosting is a plague in the service industry. But it's rarely because they hate you. It's usually one of these three reasons:
1. They Are Overwhelmed
If your quote is a messy Word document or a confusing list of 50 line items, the client might just be procrastinating because they don't have the mental energy to decode it.
The Fix: Simplify. Use packages. Make the choice easy.
2. They Didn't See It
Emails go to spam. Or they opened it on their phone, meant to reply later, and forgot. If you don't know if they opened it, you're flying blind.
The Fix: Use quoting software with tracking. If you know they opened it 5 times, call them. If they never opened it, send a text.
3. Sticker Shock
They liked you, but the price was higher than they expected, and they are too embarrassed to say "I can't afford this."
The Fix: Offer financing or monthly payment options. Or better yet, offer a "Good" (budget) option so they can still say "Yes" to you without breaking the bank.
The Follow-Up Formula
Don't just ask "Did you get my quote?". Add value.
- Day 2: "Just wanted to make sure the link worked for you."
- Day 4: "I had a thought about your project..." (Add a small tip or idea)
- Day 7: "Is this project still a priority for you?" (The breakup email)
